Ensoniq Es1370 Audio Pci Driver

installation takes 40 minutes. and i will only have to do this every time i install the driver for this game. when you click on the driver name, the ide simply leaves the box unchecked. i then find these two drivers - wdm-initiate-device and wdm-install-device.

when we go into the amd64 setup, the first box will not allow me to use the installer for this game. if you click on the second box and you get the exclamation mark (!) then this is a known bug which was fixed in the last program update.

the first channel you can select is the "capture" channel, which is what is used by the microphone. we are going to use the "vrc6" channel, and it will be enabled by default (ie, enabled and the volume control set to the largest level).

in march 1998, ensoniq released the es1370 multimedia audio device and the ct5880 chipset to the public. i don't know exactly when the first wave of windows 98-compatibile drivers started being released. the first driver available for es1370 was the free ensoniq multimedia audio pci driver from hauppauge , released on may 11th, 1998. the card's usual recommended retail price was $79, but could be had for as low as $50. it was basically a soundblaster live! with better sound quality, and an ac'97 codec that could be used in a windows 98 system without requiring purchase of the windows 98 operating system. the driver supports the 2x and 4x sampling rates, and the buggy 2x *mono* compatibility mode was supported. it was identical to the soundblaster live! driver in terms of the card's subsystems, except it had a pci interface and ac'97 compatibility. today's drivers are often better, but it is still much better to give up a little compatibility and get higher quality. many of the bugs and other problems that have been found over the years with the esi driver, e.g. up_down_click_causes_crash , were not known to be bugs by the programmer who wrote the original driver. the bug reports were probably just ignored as "not worth fixing". one amusing bug was with the little beep (bloop sound) at the start of the output, as there was no corresponding beep indicator anywhere in the driver. if you heard a bell at start up, don't worry, it was just the sound startup code.
