Srivariki Premalekha: A Telugu Romantic Comedy
Srivariki Premalekha (transl. A Love Letter to the Husband) is a 1984 Telugu-language romantic comedy film written and directed by Jandhyala, and produced by Cherukuri Ramoji Rao. The story is based on a novel titled Premalekha, published in "Chatura" magazine, written by Potturi Vijayalakshmi .

The film stars Naresh, Poornima, Suthi Veerabhadra Rao, Srilakshmi and Mucherla Aruna in the lead roles. The film revolves around a blind love letter written by Swarna (Poornima) to Ananda Rao (Naresh), and the ensuing comedy of errors and misunderstandings. The film was a commercial hit and won a Filmfare Award South and a Nandi Award. The film was also remade in Tamil as Porutham with Naresh and Poornima reprising their roles.
Plot summary
Swarna, a college student, bets with her friends that she can woo any boy with a love letter. She writes a blind love letter to an unknown person, without mentioning her name or address, and randomly chooses a name and address from a newspaper. The letter reaches Ananda Rao, who works in Hindustan Shipping Board in Visakhapatnam. He is smitten by the letter and vows to marry the girl who wrote it. He tries to find her with the help of his uncle Suryam, but faces many comical obstacles and becomes a joke in his neighborhood. His father Parandhamayya is angry with him and wants to get him married soon.
Ananda Rao's colleague Margaret tries to exploit his innocence and introduces Sony (Mucherla Aruna) as the girl who wrote the letter. Meanwhile, Swarna comes to Visakhapatnam for a vacation at her sister's house. Coincidentally, Ananda Rao becomes her neighbor and they become good friends. Swarna develops feelings for Ananda Rao, but before she can confess, he tells her that he loves Sony and is trying to convince his parents. Swarna feels dejected and returns to her village. She agrees to marry another man on the condition that her parents give no dowry.
Ananda Rao's father arranges his marriage with Sony, but on the day of the wedding, he finds out that she is already married to someone else. He realizes that he was duped by Margaret and Sony. He also learns that Swarna is the one who wrote the letter and that she is getting married to another man. He rushes to stop her wedding and confesses his love to her. Swarna is overjoyed and agrees to marry him. They elope with the help of Suryam and live happily ever after.
